Statue of former South African President (1994-99) Nelson Mandela in Parliament Square, Westminster. The bronze statue was created by Ian Walters in 2007. The original plans for the statue were for it to be located on the north side of Trafalgar Square, and when this was turned down, outside the High Commission of South Africa on the opposite side of the square. Later it was decided that it would instead be located in Parliament Square alongside statues of other key political figures including Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln.
